In detail

Why this matters in your care

Hormonal changes can affect daily life, but symptoms such as tiredness or poor sleep can have many explanations. A careful assessment helps distinguish a treatable condition from a laboratory variation and avoids choosing treatment solely to move a number.

What the assessment considers

The clinician reviews symptoms, menstrual or reproductive history where relevant, current hormones and medicines, previous testing and personal risk factors. Menopause-related symptoms and suspected testosterone deficiency require different assessment and treatment discussions. Fertility plans can change the options.

Deciding on treatment

When treatment is indicated, discuss the expected symptom benefit, alternatives, formulation and individual risks. Hormone replacement is not a universal longevity intervention. A urine or saliva profile alone should not automatically determine a prescription.

Monitoring matters

Agree how response and adverse effects will be reviewed and which follow-up measurements are needed. Bring all current hormone preparations to the discussion and do not change or stop them without the prescribing clinician’s guidance.
